March 14th Spirit Dinner:

Coconut Cartel Rum

About The Spirit: Coconut Cartel was founded by siblings Mike and Danielle Zig; born in Miami to Latin parents, the Zigs grew up between Miami, Guatemala, and El Salvador. These different yet culturally connected places are the inspiration behind Coconut Cartel. Their first venture began in 2012 by ‘smuggling’ coconuts in their suitcases from islands off the coast of El Salvador to hotels and restaurants along the East Coast. What started as a small hustle became a large operation; they created one of the first ‘Instagrammable’ beverages. Their best-selling cocktail was a fresh coconut spiked with a shot of aged rum, which inspired the Zigs to bottle this cocktail—that’s often served in Latin America and the Caribbean—and create Coconut Cartel Añejo rum, a refreshed take on premium sipping rums.

Today, Coconut Cartel still embodies the entrepreneurial hustle by bringing their award-winning rum to 18 states, Canada, Europe, and many parts of the Caribbean. Coconut Cartel celebrates Latin America through agriculture and two coconut water-infused, premium rums. Coconut Cartel añejo rum is the hero sku that started it all. The latest expansion is Coconut Cartel Blanco rum, a column and pot still white rum made in the Dominican Republic from fresh sugarcane juice and coconut water. Coconut Cartel works with the best rum and coconut producers in Latin America to bring the best of the region’s agriculture to people all over the world through a bottle of rum.
