Fritter Chef, Marta Mendoza

Marta Mendoza came to Rehoboth Beach during the pandemic to help a family member, who works with Ellen & Todd in D.C., prepare the restaurant for opening. Her initial plan was to assist with the launch of The Federal, but Rehoboth Beach quickly grew on her, and she decided to stay.

Originally from El Salvador, Marta spent over 20 years in Chicago working in food service for the Chicago Public School System. While she cooked for the kids by day, she also became an accomplished tailor, specializing in traditional dresses for Mexican folk dancers.

Now settled on Rehoboth Ave, Marta continues to hone her skills in the kitchen, preparing delicious fritters, while also pursuing her passion for sewing. When she isn’t in the kitchen, Marta creates clothes, accessories, and uniforms, and mends clothing for her co-workers, friends, and family.
